2023 Scholarship Winners

Henry Driskell

Henry Driskell is currently enrolled at Palomar College. He is ambitiously pursuing an Associate of Science in Welding, a journey that began during their sophomore year in high school and continues into the current semester. Demonstrating a keen interest in welding, particularly TIG welding, they aim to graduate with an associate degree and directly apply their skills in the field.

Henry stands out not only for his educational pursuits but also as a first-generation college student in their family. His parents have made significant sacrifices to support their educational goals, and the scholarship would greatly alleviate the financial burden on their family, allowing them to focus on their studies and setting a positive example for their younger sister.

Brianna Lopez

Brianna Lopez, an undergraduate at San Diego State University, is making significant strides in the J.R. Filanc Construction Engineering and Management Program. Having switched her major to construction management in Spring 2022, Brianna is now a full-time student with an expected graduation date of Spring 2025. Brianna's educational goals are to complete her construction courses within the next two years, graduate with honors, and participate in the ASC Reno Student Competition next year. Professionally, she aspires to work on public works projects, explicitly constructing and renovating educational facilities. Additionally, she aims to deepen her knowledge in Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) and obtain the post-graduation Construction Manager in Training (CMIT) certification.

Juliet Luevanos

Juliet Luevanos, a dedicated and passionate San Diego State University student, is making remarkable strides in her Construction Engineering program. Known for its robust curriculum and experienced faculty, the program offers a deep dive into the construction industry with a standout Project Management class that enriches learning through guest speakers, case studies, and discussions on effective project management tactics. Students, including Juliet, engage in real-world learning by interviewing project managers, which helps bridge theory and practice. Her academic prowess is matched by her clearly defined professional aspirations. Juliet has already transitioned from an intern to a full-time VDC Specialist.

Ines DaCruz

Ines DaCruz, enrolled at San Diego State University, is pursuing an undergraduate degree in Construction Management, engaging in comprehensive courses such as Construction Materials, Virtual Design in Construction, Construction Methods, Construction Codes and Concepts, and Intro to Construction Culture. With a clear vision for the future, they aspire to specialize in project management, focusing on custom luxury homes and energy-efficient low-income housing using sustainable materials. Ines gained valuable experience visiting job sites and shadowing at Cahill Construction in San Francisco, particularly in low-income housing projects.

Alejandro Cazares

Alejandro Cazares, a dedicated student in the field of Construction Management, is currently enrolled in an advanced soil mechanics class at Long Beach State University. Alejandro’s academic journey is not just about personal growth; he aims to share the knowledge and experience he gained from working with his father and his internship with his peers. He aims to prepare them for successful Professional Engineers (PE) careers.

Alejandro is actively involved in his school community, participating in the ASC Design & Build Team for the Reno Competition and being a member of the Association of General Contractors (AGC). Additionally, he represents Cal State Long Beach in soccer, a sport he has been passionate about since age seven. His involvement in sports and student organizations speaks to his dynamic, well-rounded character.
